According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, a homemaker is “a wife who does work (such as sewing, cleaning, or cooking) at home and usually does not have another job outside the home.”
The massive feminist movement has turned “homemaker” into a position of weakness or servitude, the stereotype being pregnant, barefoot, and in the kitchen. In reality, a homemaker is a position of power and influence, with greater impact on the world and on future generation than any other. We need to elevate the term “homemaker.” No one can have a higher calling.
But what if we break down the word? A homemaker is then, quite literally, one who makes the home. Is it the responsibility of only one person to make the home?
Every member of a home, family, or household can be a homemaker. They can help make the home a nicer place. They can help make the home more peaceful. They can help make the home more loving. They can help make the home a refuge from the world. They can help make the home a place where you want to be.
Each and every one of us can be a homemaker and with it, have great influence on those around us. Whether we are married or single, child or adult, we make a difference. Take this responsibility seriously. Each of us can have no higher calling.
